Common concepts:

(1) Warp, warp, warp density - the direction of fabric length; this direction of yarn is called warp; the number of arranged yarns within 1 inch is warp density (warp density).

(2) Weft, weft, weft density -- the direction of fabric width; this direction of yarn is called weft, the number of arranged yarns within 1 inch is weft density (weft density).

(3) Density - it is used to indicate the number of yarns in a unit length of woven fabric, generally the number of yarns within 1 inch 10 cm. According to Chinese national standard, the number of yarns within 10 cm is used to express the density, but textile enterprises still use the number of yarns within 1 inch to express the density. For example, the commonly seen "45 × 45 / 108 × 58" means that there are 45 warp weft yarns respectively, with the warp weft densities of 108 58.

(4) Width - the effective width of fabrics, usually expressed in inches centimeters. The common ones are 36 inches, 44 inches, 56-60 inches so on, which are called narrow, medium wide respectively. Fabrics higher than 60 inches are called extra wide, which is usually called wide. Today, the width of extra wide fabrics in China can reach 360 centimeters. The width is generally marked after the density, for example, if the fabric mentioned in: 3 is added with the width, it means: "45 × 45 / 108 × 58 / 60", that is, the width is 60 inches.

(5) Gram weight - the gram weight of fabric is generally the gram number of square meter of fabric weight, gram weight is an important technical index of knitted fabric, the gram weight of woolen cloth is also generally regarded as an important technical index. The gram weight of denim fabric is generally expressed in "Oz", that is, the ounce of fabric weight per square yard, such as 7 oz, 12 oz denim, etc.

(6) Yarn dyed fabric, as Japan calls it, refers to the process of dyeing the yarn filament first, then weaving with yarn dyed. This kind of fabric is called "yarn dyed fabric". The factories that produce yarn dyed fabric are generally called yarn dyed mills, such as denim, most of the shirt fabrics are yarn dyed.
